Biography

Daphne was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti and moved to the United States at the age of fourteen.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from at Florida Atlantic University in 2002.  Daphne enrolled into law school at Saint Thomas University School of Law where she graduated in 2005.  While in law school, Daphne worked at a civil law firm, interned at the Broward County Public Defender Office and the Broward County State Attorney Office.

Daphne’s legal career started at the Broward County Public Defender Office, where she handled a myriad of cases from inception through trial.  Daphne worked in the misdemeanor division and moved up quickly to the felony division where she represented clients who were charged with simple possession cases to more serious first-degree felonies. Daphne later worked at the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel in Broward County where she also represented clients charged with felony cases from possession charges to murder charges.

While practicing in the public sector, Daphne amassed a great deal of knowledge of jury trials and motion practice.  She later entered the world of civil litigation practice where she represented banks and mortgage servicers in various areas of creditors rights and in real property litigation.  During that time, Daphne traveled throughout the state of Florida and litigated in almost every county, from Miami to the Panhandle, handling complex litigation issues in the courtrooms.

Later, Daphne joined one of Florida’s major creditor’s rights law firms providing comprehensive collection services in the areas of commercial collections, consumer collections, replevin and judgment domestication.  Daphne successfully negotiated hundreds of cases on her client’s behalf and successfully litigated her clients’ cases.  In addition to her civil litigation experience, she also has extensive law firm management experience from her time spent as a managing attorney at a collections law firm. During that time, Daphne trained and supervised attorneys, assistants and support staff while successfully managing client goals and expectations.

Daphne has extensive trial experience and has tried several hundreds of non-jury trials, and numerous jury trials as first chair.  As a litigator, Daphne has successful represented her clients at countless depositions and mediations.  Further, Daphne has successfully argued at countless evidentiary and non-evidentiary hearings throughout her career.

At Shupe Dhawan, she uses her litigation and advocacy skills to ensure her clients obtain the benefits they deserve without fear of insurance companies.

When Daphne is not zealously advocating for her clients in the courtroom, Daphne enjoys spending quality time with her husband, her young son, and her twin bonus daughters.
