US Citizenship Test and Interview
Part of the process in Naturalization is that you will be interviewed and you must take the US Citizenship test.
At the Naturalization interview, you will be required to answer questions about your application and background. You will also have to:
- Speak, understand, and write English; and
- Take a civics test, which includes questions about United States history and government.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website has practice tests and study material to adequately prepare you for the naturalization test. You may qualify for an exemption from the English language requirement, under the following circumstances:
- You are age 50 years or older, and have lived in the United States as a green card holder for 20 years; or
- You are age 55 years or older, and have lived in the United States as a green card holder for 15 years;
There are other exemptions that can be granted for certain qualifying individuals. Being prepared for this exam can help you have a positive outcome.
